Mango Banana Oat Smoothie

Here’s a delicious smoothie you can guzzle as a satisfying breakfast on crazed weekdays! Packed with fresh mango, banana, yoghurt and oats, it fills you up without weighing you down and is just so delicious.

It’s also a “add to blender and blitz” kind of thing, I’m not sure I can even call it a recipe, but let’s do this 🙂

Refreshing breakfast smoothie with yoghurt and fresh mangoJust like this peach smoothie, oats also give this smoothie a little bulk and keep you feeling full for a while, in a good way. However, because banana and mango both thicken the smoothie, I kept the oats to a minimum. They absorb moisture and create a creamier smoothie after a few hours, so you can choose to either grab a straw, or a spoon, or both!

I added vanilla and a drizzle of honey to make the flavours more unique. Also remember that banana has a fairly strong flavour, so it can overwhelm the mango. I found one banana and two mangoes to be the right balance. The mango intensifies as the smoothie chills in the fridge. Makes it perfect for making the night before, and grabbing it on-the-go in the morning!

Mango Banana Oat Smoothie

Refreshing breakfast smoothie with yoghurt and fresh mango
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Makes: 2 to 3 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsps oats, rolled or instant
  • 1 medium banana, peeled and chopped
  • 2 medium mangoes, peeled and pulp removed
  • 3/4 cup plain yoghurt, chilled
  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup, optional
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In the bowl of a food processor or blender, blitz the oats into a fine powder. If using rolled oats, this takes a few extra seconds.
  • Now add in the banana and mango pulp and blitz till smooth.
  • Add the yoghurt, honey and vanilla. Blend to combine into a thick, creamy smoothie. Feel free to add more yoghurt or even milk if you prefer it thinner.
  • Pour into glasses and enjoy immediately, or store in the fridge for one day. The smoothie thickens in the fridge and the mango flavour also intensifies a bit, so I prefer drinking it after a while. Happy summer!

Notes

*If you live in India, Alphonso mangoes are great for colour and flavour in this smoothie. However, any other kind is ok too.
*For a stronger mango flavour, you can use half a banana, or a whole small banana.
